70+ YEARS OF FRESH HANDCUT POULTRY | 0116 254 1061

How It All Began

Westlands Poultry was started in the early 1950s by Frank Webb on a small rural farm in Uppingham, Leicestershire. What began as a simple hobby quickly grew as the number of birds increased. Frank decided to start selling the chickens because the farm was producing far more than he needed.

As demand grew, Frank outgrew the farm and began buying from local chicken breeders to keep up with supply. He purchased a unit at Leicester’s Cattle Market and founded Westlands Poultry Packers, supplying butchers across the area.

Frank’s son Peter worked alongside him. Being younger and eager to expand, Peter moved the business from the Cattle Market after it was set to be demolished to make way for Morrison’s supermarket. He found and purchased a unit on Freemen’s Common, where Westlands Poultry moved into what was then a state-of-the-art factory.

In the early 2000s, Peter’s wife was diagnosed with an incurable illness, and he decided to sell the business. Mario then purchased Westlands in 2006.

Peter remained as manager for many years until he sadly passed away in 2024. Mario stepped back from the business in 2019, handing it down to his son Michael, who is the current Managing Director.

The Family & Generations

Throughout the generations, Westlands has remained committed to top-quality service and the highest standard of poultry.

We firmly believe there is no room for low-grade products – instead, we offer high-quality poultry at affordable prices.

For decades, we’ve continued to provide hand-cut poultry, ensuring every product meets our standards and the expectations of our customers.

What Inspired the Business in the Early Days

In the early days, Westlands Poultry operated from a small family farm. As demand grew rapidly, Frank began importing chickens from UK suppliers to supply butchers across the local community.

This shift from a hobby farm to a trusted local supplier shaped the foundation of the business we know today.
